William David Wedgeworth

Services for William “David” Wedgeworth, 74, of Pelican, Louisiana (formerly of Many) were held Sunday, April 28 at the Warren Meadows Funeral Chapel at 2 p.m. with the Revs. Tony Schreffler, Melton Mitchell, and Johnathan McManus officiating. Interment will follow in the Pelican Cemetery. The family will receive visitors from 6 - 10 p.m. on Saturday, April 27, 2013 at Warren Meadows Funeral home. David was born on June 28, 1938 in Ft. Jesup, Louisiana to Molly and Henry Wedgeworth, also of Ft. Jesup, Louisiana. He passed away peacefully in the early hours Friday, April 26, 2013 in his home. He attended Many High School then spent time in the National Guard prior to enlisting in the U.S. Navy, where he served his country proudly for 22 years. David and his wife, Barbara settled in his home parish upon his retirement in April 1976. They later moved to Pelican where they have lived for around 25 years. During his tenure in the U.S. Navy he served overseas in Korea, Vietnam, and did tours of duty in areas including Scotland, Pensacola, Florida, and various areas in California Following his military career, David began employment with Con Agra Poultry in Natchitoches, Louisiana. He retired from Con Agra, but many of his friends in the community will remember him as owner of B & D Smokehouse - a concession business that enabled him to make friends throughout the State at various fairs and festivals over many years. He loved his life as a food vendor, but above all he loved his family, and he loved the Lord. David is survived by his wife of 53 years, Barbara Wedgeworth, of Pelican, and two daughters, Judy Wedgeworth Langley and her husband David, of Shreveport, and Jean Wedgeworth Stanley and her husband Bob, of Lufkin, Texas. Other survivors include four grandchildren, Donya Tatum and husband Chet, of Houston; Kimberly Rials, of Shreveport; Tom Stanley and wife Amanda, of Ft. Worth, Texas; and Melanie Rials Hartford and special friend, Matt Branam. He is also survived by six great-grandchildren including Jaxon Kade Stanley, 4 of Santa Maria California; Iris Garrelts, 6, and Kalina Stanley, of Ft. Worth; Ryleigh and Kyleigh Hartford, 2, of Many, La.; and Jonah Eli Snider of Houston, Texas. Other survivors include two sisters Hazel Miller of Ft. Jesup and Bertha Cooper of North Carolina; and one brother, Druey Wedgeworth, of Ft. Jesup. Finally, he is survived by a host of nieces, nephews, and friends. David is preceded in death by his mother and father Molly and Henry Wedgeworth, and sisters Florence Jones, Katie Howard, Ellis Francis, and Mildred Cooper; and one brother, Henry Wedgeworth, Jr.; and his dear brother-in-law, C.J. Miller, Jr.
