Donald Lee Matthews

Donald Lee Matthews, 74, was born Sept. 11, 1937 in Peason, La., and passed away peacefully at home on March 25, 2012 in Baytown, Texas after a brief illness.

He was preceded in death by grandparents Donie Bell and Bill Matthews, and Ella and Marshall Cobb; father and mother, George and Grace Matthews; brother Cleveland Matthews; brother-in-law and nephew Wayne and Aubrey McComic; niece Laura O’Connor; and brother-in-law Richard Sharp.

He is survived by his wife of 22 years, Candace Lindstrom; children Donald Wayne and wife, Maria Matthews, Mindy Matthews Jackson, and Amy Matthews, stepchildren Carrie and husband, Ken Horton, Gina and husband, David Bloom and Kurt Lindstrom and wife, Sarah; grandchildren who affectionately called him “PooPaw,” Maegan Baird, Brandie and husband, Randall Scott, Sara, Doyle, Alexa and Katrina Jackson, Alexander and Emily Harwell, Shelby and Melanie Olive, Chase and Grace Horton, Reagan, Riley and John David Bloom, Julian Almaguer, and Jenna Lindstrom; great-grandchildren Brody and Kensley Scott; brothers and sisters-in-law W.M. and Betty Matthews, Ralph and Linda Matthews, Charley and Linda Matthews, Gary and Terri Matthews, and Terry and Kim Matthews; sisters and brothers-in-law Dorothy McComic, Linda and Robert Lewis, Jean Sharp, Marilyn and Aubrey Marr, Sherry and Richard Snell, and Brenda and Jerry Winslett; lifetime friends Tommy Blake and Jerry Stover; and numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Don served his country aboard the destroyer USS O’Brien and was honorably discharged from the U.S. Navy in 1959.

He worked for Reed Tool Company in Houston for 32 years, retiring in 2002.

He enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren, Candi’s cooking, fishing and hunting with his sons and friends, and watching the Houston Texans and NASCAR on Sundays.

Pallbearers are Tommy Blake, Jerry Stover, Larry Sharp, Patrick Sharp, Allen Manasco, David Wilson, Kelvin Matthews and Ronnie Matthews.

A visitation for family and friends was held on Tuesday, March 27, 2012 at Peason United Pentecostal Church in Peason, La.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, March 28, 2012 at the church with burial following at the Mount Carmel Cemetery in Mount Carmel, La.

Services were entrusted to Warren Meadows Funeral Home in Many, La.
